Well, the numbers are in, and compared to this time last year Bankruptcy filings in the Northern District of Florida are on the rise. With everyone paying more for groceries, gas and mortgages we all know our paychecks do not go as far as it once did. So it should come as no surprise that this squeeze on our pocketbooks is forcing more and more of neighbors to seek the relief of the Bankruptcy Courts. Last January 184 Bankruptcies were filed in the Northern District of Florida, compared to 255 this January. In February of 2007, 219 filed for Bankruptcy in the Northern District of Florida, compared to 316 this February. So the numbers do not lie, more and more of our families and friends are feeling the pinch. Hopefully, it does not, but it is probably going to get worse before it gets better.
